ALMS: Dyson Racing, Flying Lizard quickest in Long Beach practice

Guy Smith on Friday set the fastest time during practice for the American Le Mans Series race in Long Beach, Calif., in his Dyson Racing Lola-Mazda LMP1 prototype.

The Englishman, who will team up with Chris Dyson for Saturday's race, set a time of 1 minute, 16.780 seconds around the 1.98-mile street circuit. He was 0.286 second quicker than the Muscle Milk Lola-Aston Martin coupe driven by Lucas Luhr, who will drive with Klaus Graf.

In the GT class, Flying Lizard Motorsports' 911 GT3 RSR driven by Patrick Long led the way with a time of 1 minute, 20.264 seconds. Long will share driving duty with Joerg Bergmeister on in Saturday's race.

Joey Hand was 0.258 second behind the Flying Lizard machine in his BMW Team Rahal Letterman Lanigan M3 GT. Hand will be paired with Dirk Mueller.

Gunnar Jeanette was fastest in the LMP Challenge class for Core Autosport. He set a time of 1 minute, 19.089 seconds. His lap was 0.324 second quicker than Alex Figge in the PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports' entry.

Level 5 Motorsports' Christophe Bouchut paced the LMP2 class with a time of 1 minute, 20.261 seconds. He was two seconds faster than his teammate Luis Diaz.

The GT Challenge class was led by the Black Swan Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup driven by Jeroen Bleekemolen. His best time of 1 minute, 23.853 seconds was 0.554 second better than Craig Stanton in the Magnus Racing entry.

Qualifying is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern on Friday.
