Amid the buildup from last weekend’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest released the list of teams taking part in next month’s Le Mans 24 Hours Test Day.

The official one-day test, to be held on April 24 at the full 8.5-mile Circuit de la Sarthe, returns after a two-year hiatus due to economic reasons. This year, though, marks the test’s return to its traditional spring date, the first time since 2004.

With the test mandatory only for new cars, teams or drivers to Le Mans, not everyone invited for the twice-around-the-clock June classic will take part. However, there will still be a strong field of 55 cars present, thanks to the ACO allowing non-Le Mans 24 Hours entries to participate.

One of the most notable additions includes Peugeot’s new 908 Hybrid 4, which technical director Bruno Famin told SPEED.com last week he’s 50 percent sure of making its public debut. Others, such as the MIK Corse Zytek Hybrid, a second Level 5 Motorsports Lola-Honda Coupe and the TDS Racing Oreca 03 Nissan, are also listed.

Additionally, three Formula Le Mans contenders have been entered, including an Oreca FLM09 for U.S.-based Genoa Racing, which scored its first American Le Mans Series victory in last weekend’s Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Genoa, along with Level 5 and Robertson Racing are the only American teams with current plans to take part. However, Corvette Racing has joined forces with French squad Larbre Competition to help give its drivers - Tommy Milner, Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin - some seat time in advance of the race week. Other U.S.-based teams are expected to also follow suit.

“We’re delighted that fifty-five cars will be taking part in the test day that’s back on the calendar in a new format,” said ACO sports manager Vincent Beaumesnil. “It’s a very encouraging number, which shows the undeniable need to organize this extraordinary free practice session before the Le Mans 24 Hours”
